Gabe
Gabe
This chapter presents the author's account of his first television appearance—on the six o'clock news, on Channel 4, the local NBC station—as the Knapp Commission's chief counsel. He was interviewed by Gabe Pressman, who was locally well-known as a penetrating if sometimes shrill investigative reporter. He learned that, like many other TV and radio reporters, Pressman's on-camera personality could be radically different from when he was off. As time went on, he found out that however abrasive Pressman might occasionally be on the air, he was utterly trustworthy and professional in dealing with confidences or in avoiding breaches of agreed-upon security. He also discovered that not all of Pressman's sometimes more amiable brethren were as straightforward.
