The Inquisition of Climate Science

James Lawrence Powell

Columbia University Press

This chapter examines a number of several prominent denier claims. Among these is that global warming is natural, not man-made; that the amount of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels is too small to make a difference; that modern temperature measurements exaggerate global warming because they include the “urban heat island effect”; that the U.S. historical temperature record is unreliable because some weather stations are sited near trees, buildings, parking lots, air conditioners, and the like, causing the stations to record unrepresentative, and presumably warmer, local temperatures; and that it was warmer during the Medieval Warm Period than today, thus today's warming is not unusual and may well be natural.
